SUPER & HONORARY SWEDES NAMED

STROMSBURG - Each year a group and individual are named “honorary Swedes”. These people have given or served the community.This year the honorary Swedes were U.S. military (past and present) and Judy Rieken. A Super Swede is named each year; this year it was a couple, Karl and Diane Eckert.

FESTIVAL KING & QUEEN CROWNED

STROMSBURG - Each year two people are chosen as festival king and queen. These people have served the community in various ways, through their employment and/or volunteerism.This year TimAlvis was chosen as king and Sherri Georges as queen. Both have served as teachers and since retired.

STROMSBURG - Santa Claus has been named as parade grand marshall for the theme of “Swedish Christmas in June”. Santa is taking a summer vacation to Stromsburg and will be wearing his Hawaiian summer gear.Join him during the parade with your Christmas float or a Hawaiian shirt.

BRAN STOPS IN STROMSBURG

STROMSBURG-BRAN(Bike Ride Across Nebraska) stopped in Stromsburg on Thursday. They were welcomed by signs that led them through town on Commercial Street (to get off the highway) to Buckley Park where they camped. First arrivals were spotted a little before 10 AM with more throughout the morning.

CHAMBER AWARDS PRESENTED

STROMSBURG - During Mojo Filter’s intermission on Thursday evening, chamber awards were presented.The first one was teacher of the year. The teacher of the year is Ben Hackett. He has spent years teaching middle school science. He was nominated because he makes science fun.

The Swedish Midsommar Festival comes to Stromsburg each summer around Father’s Day to celebrate Stromsburg’s roots. This year is no different.There are traditional events such as the Swedish dancers, Chicken and Pork Chop barbecue and the naming and crowning of honored volunteers.

BRAN Comes to Stromsburg

Bike Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) is coming to Stromsburg. They will stop Thursday, June 6th and leave Friday morning, June 7th. Riders arrive a few at a time, depending on what time they leave Petersburg (Boone County) and how fast they ride the 77 miles.
