Area Wrestlers Shine at Invites

Each week during the school year, the Polk County News will select a male and female Athlete of the Week. DEVIN NUTTELMAN Freshman Devin Nuttelman was the 113 pound champion at both the Lakeview Invite and the Howells-Dodge. He went 7-0 at the two events and has accounted for 54.

Cougars Set Sights on Titles

STROMSBURG — The Little Cougars Wrestling program is gearing up for another season. Practice will begin this month, with practices taking place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8, 12 and 19. “Please come join us, grab a singlet and get ready for a fun season,” Brittany Johnson said.

Area Athletes Receive D1-3 All-District Honors

Anumber of Cougar and Huskie football players were recognized for their accomplishments this season as the D1-3 All-District teams were announced last week. Cross County led all teams with six athletes being named to the first team.

Area Athletes Named to All-CRC Teams

Volleyball honors continue to roll in for Polk County athletes. Six Polk County volleyball players were selected to the 2022 Crossroads Conference All-Conference first team this year. The conference announced the honors over the weekend.

Winter Sports Seasons Kick Off This Week

Last Monday was the official start date of boys and girls basketball season and having recently attended my 40th high school reunion, the thoughts of days gone by began piling up in my mind, thinking about ‘first days’ of the various sports I played in.
