Area wrestlers were in action over the weekend at Cross County/Osceola traveled to the Malcom Invite. High Plains participated in the Manstedt Boys & Girls Invites. Shelby-Rising City participated in the Aquinas Invitational.

After dropping a conference matchup at Osceola to start the week, the Cross County boys used two stellar defensive efforts to beat Sutton and Heartland of the Southern Nebraska Conference last Thursday and Saturday respectively.

STROMSBURG — The Sutton Fillies came to Cross County to play the Lady Cougars on Thursday night. It was quite the game to watch. Sutton got on the board first with the first basket, and Lady Cougars had trouble hitting some shots in the first quarter.

OSCEOLA — The Lady Cougars made the short trip to Osceola on a snowy Tuesday evening for some basketball before the official start of the second semester. Both teams had a slow start, so maybe their holiday food was making them a bit sluggish.

CENTRAL CITY—What a way to end 2022. Class C-2 No. 9 Cross County won the 2022 Runza Holiday Tournament on Friday with a 51-48 win over previously unbeaten Class D-1 No. 5 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley in the championship game at Central City High School.

STROMSBURG — Cross County used stingy defense to run by Mead 49-12 in the opening round of the Runza Holiday Tournament Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars (5-3) jumped out to a 17-0 lead before the Raiders (1-6) would put the ball through basket with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter.
