Area Wrestlers Back in Action

FREEMAN — Cross County-Osceola traveled to the Freeman Invite on Friday. Devin Nuttelman was crowned the 106-pound champion at the event. He defeated teammate Wyatt Smith in 2:24 in the final round. Nuttelman went 5-0 on the day with five pins.

Junior High Boys are CRC Runner-up

High Plains Community junior high basketball competed in the Junior High Crossroads Conference Championship Game on Saturday, Jan. 21 against Exeter-Milligan. They ended up being runner-up in the tournament.

YORK – Despite 10 points by Peyton Hofmann, High Plains dropped a 52-22 decision to Meridian Tuesday afternoon at the York City Auditorium in Crossroads Conference quarterfinal play.

Storm Bounced from CRC in First Round

YORK — It was not the outing the Storm was looking for. High Plains was eliminated in the opening round of the Crossroads Conference Tournament on Saturday, falling 53-40 to Bruning-Davenport/Shickley.

Huskies See 2 Champs Crowned at David City

Justin Knoll DAVID CITY — Shelby-Rising City had two champions at the David City Invite over the weekend. The Huskies finished third with 111 points. Millard West was the top placing team with 152 points. Collin Vrbka went a perfect 5-0 on the day at 220 pounds.

Urkoski Sets Game Scoring Record

POLK — History was made on Friday for the Storm as freshman Carter Urkoski broke the school’s single-game scoring record. High Plains (5-7) returned home on Friday to take on CRC foe Dorchester, sending the fans home happy following a 75-41 win. Urkoski poured in 35 points on 16-of-25 shooting.

Storm Fall to Knights, Longhorns

WACO — Some games are closer than the final score shows. The High Plains girls found themselves in one of those games on Thursday when they traveled to Nebraska Lutheran. The Storm would go onto lose 49-43 after the Knights closed out the final 3:02 of the game on a 6-2 run.

Urkoski: 100 Wins and Still Counting

Wyatt Urkoski recorded his 100th career win on Saturday at the Cross County Bob Orsborn Classic. The High Plains junior was the 160-pound champion at the event, racking up three pins and a major decision.

Storm Win Streak Ends at 4 in 66-53 Loss to Knights

WACO — All streaks have to come to an end eventually. High Plains entered Thursday’s game at Nebraska Lutheran riding a 4-game win streak, but the Storm could not push it to five games as they fell to the Knights 66-53.
