Turner and Katie Bowman of Fullerton announce the birth of their son Rhett William, born February 26, 2024. Rhett was born at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE weighing seven pounds, four ounces and measuring 20 1/2 inches.

Governor Announces Second Deployment

LINCOLN – Monday, Governor Jim Pillen announced he has ordered a second deployment of members of the Nebraska National Guard and Nebraska State Patrol to Texas to help respond to the ongoing crisis along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Road Work Begins in Stromsburg

Polk County News Weather permitting, work will begin on April 1 on US-81 in Stromsburg, from reference post 78.24 to reference post 79.12, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. That is from the railroad track to just beyond 10th Street. Van Kirk Sand & Gravel, Inc.

New Lawyer Taking Over in Burg

Kelly Thomas of Svehla Law Offices will be stepping in to James Papik’s place on the Stromsburg square. Svehla Law Offices are out of York, and have branches in Aurora, Osceola, and now Stromsburg. Thomas is looking forward to working out of Stromsburg and keeping a law practice in town.

AREA SPEECH-LETES PLACE WELL

KEARNEY - State Speech was held on Wednesday through Friday last week. Class A and B were on Wedneday with Class C on Thursday and Class D on Friday. Thursday Cross County and Shelby-Rising City competed. Cross County’s one qualifier was Ellasyn Pinkelman in humorous.
