Swedish Festival

Plans are moving forward for the June 16-18 Stromsburg Swedish Midsommar Festival. The next planning meeting will be held at the Stromsburg Public Library on Tuesday, April 11, starting at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Committee heads are encouraged to attend at least one meeting.

Aspects

Most have heard the guidance to “think outside the box” and I recall having put a spin on that one day, “being OUTSIDE the box, thinking of the contents WITHIN.” It was several years ago when Bobby and I were shopping for a few household items.

Kindergarten Round-Up, Preschool Registration

On Friday, April 14, Jeffrey Elementary in Osceola will have its Kindergarten round up starting at 9 a.m. Any student that will be starting Kindergarten in the 2023 - 2024 school year are welcome and should attend.

Swede Home Cemetery Annual Meeting

The Swede Home Cemetery Association annual meeting will be Monday, April 17 at 8 p.m. at Swede Home Church.

Gresham News

There will be no school at Centennial on Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10. Gresham American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Gresham Park for preschool through 3rd grade. There will be prizes, candy and the Easter Bunny, rain or shine.

Egg Hunt is April 8

Grab your baskets and mark your calendars. The Easter Egg Hunt in Gresham is Saturday, April 8 at the Gresham Park. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and will take place rain or shine. The event is open to preschool through third grade.

Kindergarten, Preschool Roundup is April 19

Kindergarten and Preschool Roundup is set for April 19. Incoming kindergarten students are invited to come out between 8:30-10 a.m. at the elementary school in Clarks. The preschool roundup is from 10-11 a.m. at the elementary school.

High Plains FFA Selected for Top Chapter Award at Convention

High Plains FFA members attended the state FFA Convention last week in Lincoln. While they were there the group was honored as one of the top chapters. The convention is also an opportunity for FFA members to network with other people in the Ag world.

Grace Notes

Though it may simply be an old wives’ tale, the Farmer’s Almanac reports that many gardeners believe that Good Friday is the optimal day on which to plant potatoes. They insist that spuds planted on that day will grow better and bear more fruit. Some may skip that tradition this year, however.

Births

Heath and Melanie (Baker) Leitz, of Stromsburg, are the parents of a daughter, Annie Olyvia Leitz, born on March 24, 2023 at 4:25 p.m. at York General Hospital in York. She weighed 6 pounds 6.2 ounces and was 19” long. Big brother Trevor, age 4, welcomed her home.
