Phyllis E. Fusby

Phyllis E. Fusby, 85 of Kearney passed away Friday, September 26, 2025 at Brookestone Gardens in Kearney. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Aprivate family inurnment will be held at Kearney Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Phyllis was born August 5, 1940 in Stromsburg, NE to Hans and Ruth (Carlson) Nielsen. She was raised near Stromsburg and attended Stromsburg High School, graduating in 1957. Phyllis later attended St. Joseph’s Beauty School. On August 16, 1959, she was united in marriage to Richard Fusby at the United Methodists Church in Stromsburg, NE. To this union two children were blessed. The couple raised their family in Hastings and Grand Island before settling in Kearney. They spent thirty plus summers enjoying lake living at Johnson Lake. Phyllis enjoyed traveling and was proud to have traveled to all 50 states. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Fusby of Kearney; children, Brad (Karen) Fusby of Kearney and Kristine (Verl) Wurtz of Columbus; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother-in-law,Armand Schmoker of Osceola, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Milas (Leland) Peterson, Marian (Rex) Obermier and Marjorie Schmoker; brothers, Clarence (Betty) Nielsen and Morris (Jerelene) Nielsen.
