Randy Lee Johnson, age 70, of Osceola, Nebraska, passed away July 20, 2026 at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola following a vehicle accident.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Organist will be Sue Lehn. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Randy was born December 23, 1955 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Verlin and Helen (Hoffman) Johnson. He attended school in Stromsburg, graduating from Stromsburg High School in 1974. He attended Wesleyan where he played football and ran track. He then transferred to Kearney State where he received his degree in Industrial Technology. He began his teaching career at York Public Schools in the fall of 1979.

OnJune4,1983 he was united in marriage to Carmen Mary Schott at St Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola. They lived in Stromsburg before moving to the farm in 2001 to be closer to his parents and continue to help his father farm. He retired from teaching in York in 2011 but continued coaching the pole vault team for 46+ years there.

Randy would still substitute teach, coached jr high basketball and football. He helped with the Central City Auction each year starting in 2011 until 2024.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, collecting and playing and following all sports. Randy was a true outdoors man that loved and respected wildlife. He was a member of a York bowling league where he still substituted, and volunteered for many years at the Stromsburg Swedish Festival BBQ. He enjoyed his niece and her children.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg where he was baptized and confinned, and served on the church council and other committees. He was also a member of the Elks York, NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Stromsburg Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife Carmen of Osceola; sister Deb (John) Harper of Lincoln; niece Kim (Nick) Cordonier - great nephew Wyatt and great niece Addy of Lin-
