Warnick to be Honored on State Memorial

On June 6, 2024, the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Memorial will hold its grand opening in Papillion. This statewide Memorial honors the 396 Nebraska military personnel who were Killed In Action (KIA) during the Vietnam War, as well as an additional four Sailors from the USS Evans.

AREA SPEECH-LETES PLACE WELL

KEARNEY - State Speech was held on Wednesday through Friday last week. Class A and B were on Wedneday with Class C on Thursday and Class D on Friday. Thursday Cross County and Shelby-Rising City competed. Cross County’s one qualifier was Ellasyn Pinkelman in humorous.

CC School Locks Down Due to Perpetrator

Monday, March 11th at about 10 AM, Terrance Heyes, a 2021 graduate of Cross County School paid an uninvited visit to his alma mater. He caused quite a commotion, tearing up the parking lot. He never left his vehicle, but gave obscene gestures to those outside according to Sheriff Ladwig.

Meet Superintendent Brown, Coming to HPC

Jason Brown, currently the superintendent of Bertrand Community School, will be the new High Plains Community Schools superintendent starting the 202425 school year. “I’m excited to move over to the district and get started at High Plains Community Schools,” he said.

HPC Take Medals at HLHF Invite

The High Plains Speech Team went to the Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family Speech Meet on Saturday the 10th. The Novice team placed 5th overall and the Varsity team placed 8th. McKinley Warnick was the Novice Persuasive Champion. Alyssa Wostrel and Samantha Ertzner were the Novice Duet Champions.

Spelling Bee Champions Crowned Monday

OSCEOLA - Polk County held the annual spelling bee on Monday. All four schools participated. Each school sent about five participants per grade level. Approximately 31 fifth and sixth graders competed in the morning. After five rounds, the first eight were eliminated.

Beran Resigns as HPC Superintendent

Superintendent Kim Beran’s resignation at High Plains Community Schools will be effective June 30th, 2024. “I will be the Superintendent for Elm Creek Public Schools starting the 2024-2025 school year,” Beran said.
