TEN YEARS AGO September 6, 2012 Polk County 4-H member, Cale Pallas, was selected as one of the top 20 award winners in the 4-H Science competition. His exhibit showcased science by building a custom fishing rod. He was awarded a $100 prize.

The American Legion Post #132 annual membership dinner is Monday, September 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Stromsburg Legion Club. Spouses and children are welcome.

September is College Savings Month

LINCOLN — Governor Pete Ricketts is calling attention to the importance of saving for a loved one’s future education by issuing a proclamation declaring September as College Savings Month.

Report from Joe Rystrom, Delegate Grass roots movement bring changes to Nebraska GOP. It was an exciting time full of unexpected events. To begin with there were more people there than have been to the convention in many years. Many of the delegates were first-timers.

BARGAIN SHOPPING

This last weekend was an event called “Bargains for You on 92”. It was put together by Sheri Steager of Surprise with help from ten other people, including Denise Andersen of Osceola, Maxine Goelz of Shelby, Lori Pesicka Frasch of Shelby and Ashley Eickmeier of Rising City.

Area 4-H’ers on Display at State Fair

GRAND ISLAND — Polk County is well represented at the Nebraska State Fair. Over the weekend, 4-H projects were judged and fashion and livestock shows took place. Projects are now on display. The 4-H exhibits open every day at 10 a.m. in the FFA 4-H Building.
