STUDENTS EXCEL AT STATE FBLA, FCCLA & SKILLS USA

Last week was a busy week for area students. Three state competitions were held: FCCLA, FBLA and Skills USA. Shelby-Rising City and Cross County participated in State FBLA. Cross County School also sent students to State FCCLA and State Skills USA.

EVANGELICAL COVENANT CELEBRATES 150TH

STROMSBURG – The third church in the area to celebrate 150 years is the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg (formerly known as the Mission Church until 1935). They held their celebration Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Road Work Begins in Stromsburg

Polk County News Weather permitting, work will begin on April 1 on US-81 in Stromsburg, from reference post 78.24 to reference post 79.12, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. That is from the railroad track to just beyond 10th Street. Van Kirk Sand & Gravel, Inc.

AREA SPEECH-LETES PLACE WELL

KEARNEY - State Speech was held on Wednesday through Friday last week. Class A and B were on Wedneday with Class C on Thursday and Class D on Friday. Thursday Cross County and Shelby-Rising City competed. Cross County’s one qualifier was Ellasyn Pinkelman in humorous.

CC School Locks Down Due to Perpetrator

Monday, March 11th at about 10 AM, Terrance Heyes, a 2021 graduate of Cross County School paid an uninvited visit to his alma mater. He caused quite a commotion, tearing up the parking lot. He never left his vehicle, but gave obscene gestures to those outside according to Sheriff Ladwig.

CC Robotics Qualify Two Teams for Worlds

Polk County News OMAHA- Three Cross County robotics teams attended the Vex State Championships at Omaha North on March 8-9. On Friday the teams competed in the Skills and Judging Competitions.

Primitive Chicks Selected as Passport Stop

Polk County News Primitive Chicks in Stromsburg has been selected as a Nebraska Passport stop. The Nebraska Passport program is entering its 15th year. There are also 15 bonus stops in addition to the 70 attractions. Primitive Chicks is one of the 70 attractions, and the only one in Polk County.

More Medalists at David City Meet

The Cross County Speech Team went to the David City Invite on Saturday the 10th. For Extemp, Champs, Ava Cramer was 3rd; Next in, Kylie Moore was 6th. In Serious Prose, Revin Nyberg was 1st in Consolation. In Novice Poetry, Selah Theis was 6th.
