IANR state engagement tour kicks off April 3

LINCOLN — Leaders from the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska — Lincoln and the Agriculture Builders of Nebraska will visit communities across Nebraska during a statewide listening tour in April and May.

Quilt of Valor Work Day Set for April 1 at Legion

Prescribed Burn Planned at Homestead

Beatrice, Nebraska - Homestead National Historical Park plans to conduct a prescribed burn treating approximately 60 acres. The prescribed fire will occur the first day in which favorable and safe conditions exist between now and May 1, 2023.

Thursday at Stromsburg Chamber’s after-hours event at the Midwest Covenant Home awards were presented. The chamber asked for nominations in the following categories: volunteer of the year, legend award, emergency responder of the year, and educator of the year.

SRC School Board Open to Sub Pay Increase

SHELBY — It’s not a crisis, but it is a problem. The Shelby-Rising Board of Education is discussing the idea of increasing the daily rate of pay for substitute teachers.

Eagle sculpture at Osceola Cemetery

OSCEOLA — There is a new bird overlooking the Osceola Cemetery. A sculpture of an eagle has recently been carved. The idea came to Elaine Jones as she has seen carvings around. She was at the cemetery at a memorial service and noticed a tree with dead branches.

Speech Teams Return from State Competition

Matt DeMers and Hayden Lavaley brought home some hardware for Osceola at Class D1 Speech State. Lavaley was the champion for Oral Interpretation of Serious Prose and the runner-up for Oral Interpretation of Poetry. DeMers finished 5th in Entertainment Speaking.
